Chuck Swoboda, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman

cree_chuck-swobodaCharles Swoboda has served as Cree’s chief executive officer since June 2001, as a member of the Board of Directors since October 2000 and as President since January 1999. He was chief operating officer of the company from 1997 to 2001 and vice president of operations from 1997 to 1999. He had served as operations manager from 1996 to 1997, as general manager of Cree’s former subsidiary, Real Color Displays, from 1994 to 1996, and as LED product manager from 1993 to 1994. He was previously employed by Hewlett-Packard Company. He holds a degree from Marquette University.

John W. Palmour, Ph.D., Executive Vice President of Advanced Devices

cree_john-palmour_300dpiJohn W. Palmour, Ph.D. is a co-founder of Cree Inc. and has been its Chief Technology Officer of Power and RF since September 2008. Dr. Palmour served Executive Vice President of Advanced Devices of Cree Inc. from 2002 to 2008 and he was responsible for all aspects of Cree Inc.’s wide bandgap RF, microwave and power switching device businesses and also managed its contract research programs. He served as a Director of Advanced Devices since 1995 and a member of the Board of Directors of Cree Inc. since October 1995. Previously, he served as Board of Directors of Cree Inc., from 1992 to 1993.

Dr. Palmour has authored or co-authored numerous publications and is co-inventor on more than 35 U.S. patents and over 44 foreign patents. He received both a Bachelors degree and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from North Carolina State University.

John T. Kurtzweil, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Before joining Cree, John T. Kurtzweil was senior vice president and chief financial officer of Cirrus Logic, Inc., a publicly-traded supplier of analog, mixed-signal and digital processing solutions for audio and industrial product applications, based in Austin, Texas. He previously served as senior vice president and CFO of ON Semiconductor, a global supplier of power- and data-management semiconductors and standard semiconductor components, and of disk drive component manufacturer Read-Rite Corporation, which sold substantially all of its assets to Western Digital Corp. in 2003. Immediately prior to joining Cirrus Logic, Kurtzweil had served as interim CFO for Quepasa Corporation, an online company serving the growing US Hispanic community. Mr. Kurtzweil is a certified public accountant and holds a B.S. degree in accounting from Arizona State University and an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.

Stephan Greiner, Vice President Cree Europe

cree_stephan-greinerStephan Greiner leads the team from the German regional headquarter. In his role, he is responsible for the sales of Cree’s complete portfolio, ranging from LED chips and components to RF and Power devices.

Stephan Greiner brings more than 16 years of experience in the semiconductor sales market to his position at Cree. He worked as Vice President of Global Sales at the optoelectronics supplier Everlight Electronics in Taiwan. Before, he worked at the Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH as Senior Director of Sales where he was in charge of the regions Europe, Latin America and Middle East.
